A few laps around the track

Principal Anne Lederer said the honor society students often have lunch with children in pre-k and look to mentor the school’s younger students, adding that they exemplify what it means to be a St. Christopher student.

“It makes you very proud,” Lederer said of the honor society organizing the event. “They’re really good kids.”

Each time a new crop of students would come out to the track, honor society members would get a small group to walk with. During their stroll, they would talk about class work and their interests. And while the student body got to enjoy the sunshine and each other’s company, they also knew that it was for a good cause.

“I know in my heart that people are being helped,” said seventh grader Gabriel Lajeune, 12. “I’m glad that people are actually benefitting from this.”

Tim Callaghan, a 14-year-old eighth grader, said it was good to pick which charities would benefit from the walk-a-thon and also that the entire school was involved. “It’s nice for us to be able to help others and touch other people’s lives,” he said.
