A garden for all to enjoy

A large, wooden sun, which was used during the BHS production of “The Wiz” earlier this year, was installed in the garden shortly before the ceremony. Cavanagh said one of her goals is to use as much repurposed art as possible in the garden.

But its repurposed art won’t be the garden’s only unique quality. Cavanagh and Fallon explained that unlike most community gardens where each person is given their own plot of land, Baldwin’s garden will be a cooperative. Cavanagh said that if someone is preparing a Mexican dish for dinner, they could simply stop by the garden and pick some fresh cilantro.

After months of hard work, Cavanagh said she was “verklempt” to see the large turnout for the ceremony.

“It’s not just about beautification and planting flowers and making things look nice,” said BCA Preisdent David Viana. “It’s about bringing people from all over the community [together].”

Although the garden is officially opened, Cavanagh said there is still much work to be done. If you’re interested in getting involved, email baldwincivic@gmail.com.
