Baldwin Day 2014: A community celebration

Posted

Local residents traveled to Baldwin Park last Saturday to take part in a community picnic, enjoy some live music and watch fireworks during Baldwin Day 2014, sponsored by the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.

Residents enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza from the local eateries — Amore Mio, Gino’s, DeFrancisco and the Wander Inn — as well as veggie fritters from Raagini Indian Restaurant. The Baldwin-RVC Rotary Club was on hand to distribute water, Boy Scout Troop 182 helped with set up and coordination, Rob Oliveri and volunteers from the Baldwin Summer Program provided arts and crafts and Patti Gollin organized face painting. There were pony rides for the children, sponsored by Karen and Mike Rosenstock, Carol Bellis and Jill Sandhaas. Mike Fincken, of New World Music Center, coordinated the entertainment, which went on throughout the event.

Local businesses set up tables to showcase their offerings and donated prizes for the raffle. Some of the businesses sponsored the evening’s fireworks display, which drew rave reviews.

The Department of Parks and Recreation got the park ready for the picnic and coordinated a “Walking the Line,” a Johnny Cash tribute band, concert. The Nassau County Police Department, Sanitation District No. 2 and the Baldwin Fire Department also helped to make this event possible, according to Debbie Pugliese, secretary of the chamber.
