Baldwin residents talked public safety with representatives from the Nassau County Police Department during a community meeting on Oct. 20.

Inspector Daniel Flanagan, commanding officer of the 1st Precinct in Baldwin, told community members at Baldwin Public Library that major crimes are down 33 percent in Baldwin when compared to this time last year. Flanagan added that residential burglaries are down 47 percent when using the same metric.

Residents touched on a host of topics with Flanagan and Sgt. Arnold Rothenberg, including suspected drug dealing in the neighborhood, speeding cars, car break-ins and homelessness.

Leg. Laura Curran organized the meeting and she will also be hosting a scam prevention seminar at the Baldwin Public Library on Nov. 5, with the state attorney general’s office and the county’s office of consumer affairs on hand.
