Jazz sounds can be heard all weekend-long in the City by the Sea. An eclectic group of acclaimed musicians keep those tunes going as the Jazz Festival celebrates its 11th year. Special guests included the Frank Vignola Duo, playing Django-esque gypsy swing; Chieli Minucci, with his band Special EFX; local legend Dean Brown, with his high powered Dean Brown Band; legendary harpist Edmar Castaneda, and a five-piece band; and Paul Simon’s bassist Bakithi Kumalo; along with festival producer Steve Adelson and his Chapman Stick, among others.

Seaside Spectacular Collector’s Car Show
Whether you want to spend a relaxing day admiring vintage collector cars or listening to music or both, the Town of Hempstead’s annual Seaside Car Show is always a great place to unwimd on an early fall afternoon. Car enthusiasts will want to check out the many classic vehicles on view, including this year’s display of exotic vehicles. Awards are given to the best. Tony Ferrari’s Chaperones perform and the beach always beckons.

Gala Annual Music Party
Renowned clarinetist Stanley Drucker is a guest performer, along with soprano Karen Lehman DiMartino at the American Chamber Ensemble’s gala music party. They join clarinetist Naomi Drucker and pianists Blanche Abram and Marilyn Lehman, along with violinist Eriko Sato and cellist Chris Finckel, for an afternoon of informal music making that previews the ensemble’s upcoming season. The progam includes works by Marga Richter, Herbert Deutsch, Morton Gould, Dana Richardson, and Jonathan Russ (ACE’s composer-in-residence for 2013-14).
