Man stabbed in Baldwin bar

After a verbal argument in a Baldwin bar, a man was stabbed in the neck with a steak knife on May 21 at 8:30 p.m., police said.

According to detectives, while inside the Oasis Bar, on Brooklyn Avenue in Baldwin, the victim, a 48-year-old male, became involved in a verbal argument with David Taus, 51, of Baldwin. The argument escalated and Taus, police said, withdrew a steak knife and stabbed the victim in the neck causing a large laceration and heavy bleeding. Taus then fled the bar in an unknown direction.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in a private auto where he received stitches to treat his wound.

Taus was arrested on May 23 and charged with second-degree assault. He was arraigned on May 24 in First District Court, Hempstead.
