Music and games ‘Star’ at club session

There was a lot of game-playing going on — and singing, too — when the Order of the Eastern Star, Nassau Chapter 718, had its first get-acquainted session of 2016 last month: a Karaoke Game Night.

It took a while for would-be singers to get up the nerve to pick up the mike and regale listeners with their favorite songs, but when they started, there was no stopping them.

DJ Barry Greenfield, with 30 years of experience under his belt, spun the tunes at the event, held at the Baldwin Masonic Temple on Prospect Street.

Jane Stuart of Brooklyn came out to support the Nassau chapter of her favorite organization. She said the order is the women’s portion of the Masons. There are also boys and girls groups.

The Order, Stuart said, is based on the women of the bible and follows the principles of truth and loving kindness.

But most folks at the game night just wanted to have fun. Eva Glinski of East Meadow watched with amazement as her sister, Eleanor Bateman of West Hempstead got up to belt out a few tunes for the crowd.

Some had very simple excuses for keeping to their seats. “He doesn’t have any of the songs I sing,” said Joseph Newman, of the Freeport-Roosevelt area.
