Residents check out variety of volunteer options

Posted

Despite the early morning snow and rain, more than 75 people attended the Volunteer Fair at the Baldwin Public Library on Jan. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. and at least 20 of them were teens from the Baldwin schools.

Two organizations that were scheduled to attend had to pull out last Saturday morning but there were still roughly 15 in attendance. The organizations ranged from the local civic associations and Baldwin Fire Department to Nassau County CERT, SNCH (South Nassau Communities Hospital) Auxiliary and the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind.

The people who attended the fair spoke to many of the organization representatives to discuss what their options might be and were then better able to make decisions as to what volunteering opportunities would work for them. In addition, the organization representatives appreciated networking with other organizations.
