Violations would adjudicated by either the Nassau or Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations agencies. The penalty may not exceed $50 per violation, except that a $25 may be imposed for failure to respond to a violation within a specific time period.
Speed camera violations are equivalent to a parking ticket and are assessed against the person who hold’s the vehicle’s registration, not the driver. If guilty, a registrant’s failure to pay three or more speed camera violations within an 18-month period could result in suspension or non-renewal of a vehicle registration.

James Scannell, superintendent of Baldwin schools, said the district has yet to be filled in on where the community’s speed camera will be placed or the procedure for how it will be determined. Scannell said that while he recognizes these cameras are largely about increasing revenue, he said “anything that has a chance of making the area around our schools safer is something that I would support.”

If the district is asked for its input on where the camera should be placed, Scannell said he would assemble the building principals and other administrators to form a collaborative decision.
