New York Police Department Sgt. Stephanie Moses, 40, was found dead in the bedroom of her Baldwin home shortly after 11 p.m. on Dec. 11. The cause of death is apparently suicide and some reports indicate it followed an argument with Moses’ romantic partner.

Moses, who rose to prominence after being photographed with President Barack Obama at a May 2011 ceremony at Ground Zero, served with the police department for 18 years. She was frequently presented as one of the faces of the NYPD, and worked with the department’s ceremonial unit.

In a statement given on Dec. 12, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said Moses “epitomized professionalism." He sent his condolences to those close to Moses and complimented the Sgt. on her “conduct and dedication to duty.”
