Snow day for Baldwin Schools, St. Chris

The Baldwin School District and St. Christopher's School are shut down today due to the weather.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for Baldwin until noon today for Baldwin. Between 4 and 6 inches of snow is expected for the area, according to the service.

The Long Island Rail Road posted one cancellation and one delay this morning on the Babylon branch into Atlantic Terminal. The 7:59 a.m. train from Massapequa was cancelled for equipment trouble. Riders were to take the next westbound train.

And the 6:52 a.m. train from Massapequa due at Atlantic Terminal at 7:59 is 11 minutes late. For alerts from the MTA on travel, see http://alert.mta.info/

A notice posted on the Baldwin's district's website, baldwinschools.org, says that "all district schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 5, due to inclement weather."

The weather service said that snow will continue until early afternoon and that north winds of 10 to 20 mph will gust up to 30 mph.

Visibility will be reduced, the weather service said, impacting the morning commute.
