The St. Agnes Stags won the Nassau County Catholic Middle Level Basketball League for the fourth straight year and capped off an undefeated season with a 51-31 win over St. Peter’s of Port Washington on Feb. 15.

The Stags jumped out to a 17-4 lead and never looked back while getting contribution from all 15 players.

"They were a great group of basketball players and an even better group of young men,” said coach Mike Prendergast. “They came to practice every day and worked hard and continued the effort into the games. They made my job very easy. "

The team had great balance and depth all year. Eighth graders Andrew Rooney, Brendan Connors, Connor McCabe and Jack Murphy anchored the team with seventh graders Matt Mahoney and Jack Garcia contributing consistently . The guard play of eighth graders Matt Fitzgerald, Chris Kavanaugh, Aidan Hogan, Pat Conlon,  Quinn Brosnan and John Quinn was terrific all year and seventh graders Kieran Ambrosi, Stephen O'Brien and Brendan Dunster provided great depth and will anchor the squad next year.

The victory pushed St. Agnes’ final record to 19-0, which included a 46-21 win over St. Aidan’s of Williston Park in the semifinals the day before.
