Educating children about the Western Bays is equally important, experts say. Operation SPLASH hosts a number of school programs. “The education programs that we do in the schools, [second-graders are] studying storm runoff and they’re doing it in accordance with the Common Core through a grant at Adelphi [University],” said Crupar. “The students are learning about personal responsibility and how one person can make a difference.”
