Their dirty, sweaty job: Celebrating work

Posted

Most people want to forget about work, but the New York State Industries for the Disabled chose to celebrate it last week with the help of the AHRC Work Center of Nassau.

The day of service was held in appreciation of the thousands of job opportunities for New Yorkers with disabilities. NYSID, celebrating 40 years, created employment opportunities for more than 7,000 New Yorkers with disabilities this past year.

On Sept. 17, workers from AHRC Nassau volunteered at the Baldwin American Legion Post 246, gardening, pulling weeds, trimming trees, and generally getting their hands dirty. AHRC Nassau helps individuals with disabilities find competitively paid jobs by assisting individuals in becoming an integral part of the work force within their communities
