Woman left baby in hot car, NCPD says

A Maryland woman was arrested in Baldwin on Aug. 5 and charged with leaving her two-year-old child in a locked car with the windows up, Nassau County police said.

Digna Argueta Gutierrez, 31, allegedly left the baby in her vehicle, which was turned off and parked in the Baldwin shopping center on Grand Avenue, police said in a statement. She’s being charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child was was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Aug. 6.

The baby was “sweating profusely,” the NCPD said. The average temperature in Baldwin that day was 88 degrees, according to accuweather.com. A witness called 911 after spotting the baby in the car and cops removed the child after 15 minutes of trying to get into the vehicle and placed the boy into an air conditioned vehicle.

Gutierrez later returned to the car and was arrested. The baby was transported to an area hospital.
