Calhoun alumna follows soccer dream to Hungary

Kayla Cappuzzo’s alarm clock rings at 8 a.m. in Hungary — 2 a.m. in America — and she doesn’t hit snooze like many other 22-year-olds. She pops out of bed. The breakfast is also a little different in Hungary, where she was recently signed to play professional soccer. She grabs two hard-boiled eggs and a piece of toast on the way out the door. more

Calhoun High School senior Kayla Cappuzzo was recently named the New York State Gatorade High School Soccer Player of the Year.

Calhoun senior named Gatorade Player of the Year

In the fall of her junior year at Calhoun High School, soccer star Kayla Cappuzzo, now an 18-year-old senior, played with her travel team, the Albertson Fury ’95, in a college showcase sponsored by the Elite Clubs National League in San Diego. Immediately after, she received an email from Tracey Leone, head women’s coach at Northeastern University. Then she heard from Leone’s husband, Ray, Harvard’s head coach. more
