The Nassau County Board of Cooperative Educational Services recently honored an administrator of a North Bellmore special-education program for her contributions to the community.

Amy Goldstein, principal of the Nassau BOCES Children’s Readiness Center at the Jerusalem Avenue School, was honored by more than 400 of Long Island’s most ardent public education supporters this month. Goldstein is one of 13 honorees to receive the 2015 Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award at the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation’s ninth annual gala.

The distinction is given to individuals or organizations that have made substantial contributions to public education in Nassau County. A strategic education partner with school districts since 1967, Nassau BOCES created the awards program to recognize those who share its mission of ensuring a “successful, challenging, caring and safe environment that enables students of all ages and abilities to achieve their maximum potential.”

Outstanding individuals and organizations have made strides to accomplishing key educational goals embraced by Nassau BOCES, such as ensuring student success, a press release stated.

Nassau BOCES Board President Eric Schultz said Goldstein deserves the honor. “Amy Goldstein has been devoted to Nassau BOCES students for more than 20 years,” he said. “Making an impact on the lives of children and touching the lives of the families that she works with are the two greatest rewards Amy has enjoyed during her long career.”

Goldstein began her work with Nassau BOCES while serving as assistant principal of the Jerusalem Avenue School in North Bellmore. According to BOCES, her exceptional leadership abilities brought her to the helm of the elementary school program, and soon after to principal of the CRC. Officials noted that she is an invaluable resource to parents, lending encouragement and guidance to help families navigate the challenging special-education system.

An award-winning educator, Goldstein was named Nassau County Person of the Year for 2011 by the Long Island Association of Special Education Administrators. She currently serves as the vice president of the Nassau BOCES Administrators Association.

The Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation is an independent non-profit organization that raises funds for innovative educational programs that fall outside of the agency’s budget.
