Members of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores said they are mourning Harvey S. Karp, who died on Aug. 2.

Karp died in his home at the age of 65 after battling cancer. He is survived by his wife, Robin, who was an administrative assistant for Bellmore’s chamber for many years, board members said.

Martha Verdi, the chamber’s membership representative and festival coordinator, explained that Robin was a tremendous asset to the organization and that the Karp family was close with many members. “It was the loss of a special friend,” she said of Harvey’s passing.

Harvey was born on Nov. 10, 1948, in Montreal, Canada, according to the Tuthill Funeral Home website. His funeral was held at the home, located in Wading River, on Aug. 4.

Harvey was an engineer with the Consolidated Edison Coporation of New York. He and Robin have two sons, Adam and Bryan Karp. They also have two grandchildren – Brody and Brock, sons of Bryan and his wife, Jessica. Adam and his wife, Jocelyn, are expecting a son.

The Karps sat shiva at their Baiting Hollow home on Aug. 4 and 5. Harvey was buried in the Calverton National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Karps request that donations be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Commack in memory of Harvey S. Karp. Friends of the Karps can make a donation online at mskcc.org/giving.
