A Bellmore man was arrested and charged with drug and weapon possession at 10 p.m. last Thursday after he “claimed ownership” of a loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun and a “large quantity of marijuana,” according to Nassau County police.

Special Investigations Squad detectives were at a Russell Street home in Bellmore on March 24, conducting a robbery investigation. Police did not offer details about where and when the robbery had occurred.

While at the home, police discovered the handgun and marijuana, which Curtis Bishop, 28, of Camp Avenue in Bellmore, said were his, according to officials. He was arrested without incident. Police said he happened to be at the home at the time.

Bishop was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree weapon possession. He was scheduled to be arraigned on March 25. At press time, there was no information on his plea or his attorney.
