A Bellmore man faces drunken-driving charges after he crashed his car into a local home, police said.

Nassau County Police Department officials said that Matthew Knee, 30, was arrested on Saturday night after officers responded to the accident that left Knee and another passenger trapped in a car.

When police arrived at St. Marks Place around 10 p.m., they said they found Knee and a 51-year-old male passenger seated in a 2000 Lincoln. The car had plowed through a chain-link fence and into a house.

Both men were stuck in the car. The Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit and the Bellmore Fire Department worked to get the men out of the car and to a local hospital. Officials said they were treated for head contusions.

Police said an investigation determined that Knee was driving drunk, and he was placed into custody. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and third-degree reckless assault.

Knee will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said. They also noted that no one inside the St. Marks home was injured in the April 6 accident.
