Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

Posted

Students, teachers and administrators at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School in Bellmore put their pride in the institution on display during Catholic Schools Week recently.

The school serves parishioners at St. Barnabas in Bellmore, Curé of Ars in Merrick, St. Raphael’s in East Meadow and St. Francis DeChantel in Wantagh. Like other Catholic schools around the nation, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton celebrated Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 25 to 31.

This year’s Catholic Schools Week theme was “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”

Schools typically observe the week with masses, open houses, and fun and educational activities for students, families, parishioners and community members, according to the National Catholic Education Association. Through these events, schools focus on the value that Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to local communities, the larger church and the country.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Principal Leeann Graziose said that the Jan. 25 open house and programs associated with Catholic Schools Week gave the staff and students the chance to show the community what their school is all about: the social, emotional, academic and spiritual growth of children.

The youngsters, in grades kindergarten through eight, and educators had the chance to show appreciation for one another later on in the week as well. The annual Kids’ Day festivities were held on Jan. 29. Students of all ages took part in relay races and other games that got them moving in the gymnasium, in addition to activities that challenged their minds, like “Name That Tune.” The children also created presentations and prepared for Teacher Appreciation Day on Jan. 30.

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School is at 2341 Washington Ave. For more information, check out its website, steas.com.
