Central seniors celebrate on prom night
By Tim Baker/Herald
Spenser Carrion and Will Rosenblum posed for photos before Calhoun's prom.

About 40 Calhoun High School students gathered at senior Matt Vogel’s house in Merrick last Thursday, donning formal wear. After snapping dozens of photos in Vogel’s yard, the group hopped into a limousine bus to celebrate at an event that they have awaited for months –– prom.

Vogel’s pre-prom party was one of dozens across Bellmore-Merrick on the evening of June 26, as seniors from Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham high schools prepared for their respective proms later that night.

Like Vogel, Kennedy graduating senior Isabelle Greenbaum held a pre-prom party at her Merrick home for 13 couples and their families. At both events, parents and friends snapped photos of the students in formal wear before they went to their respective dances.

Calhoun’s prom was held at Jericho Terrace in Mineola, Kennedy’s at the Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park and Mepham’s at the Sand Castle in Franklin Square.
