Parents and children in Bellmore-Merrick have been on high alert this week since a man driving a white pick-up truck allegedly attempted to lure two young children into his vehicle, according to Nassau County police.

Detectives said an 11-year-old girl was walking on Oak Street around 3 p.m. on May 10, on the North Merrick-North Bellmore border, when she was approached by the man in the pickup. He was described as white, wearing a red-and-black baseball cap with the letter “B” on it. The girl became frightened and ran off.

At 3:15 p.m. on nearby Dewey Avenue, the same man reportedly approached a boy and told him to get in the pickup. The boy also ran away.

Detectives ask anyone with information about these incidents to call (516) 573-6153.
