Former Bellmore, Baldwin and Rockville Centre resident Eleanor Viola Drescher, passed away Oct. 2, in Plano, Texas at the age of 88. Drescher was born on April 9, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. Her husband Richard W. Drescher of 41 years predeceased her.

Drescher was the daughter of Harry and Viola Kuntz and sister of Dorothy Trowbridge. She moved to Chapman Avenue in Bellmore at an early age where she grew up and graduated from Mepham High School. Upon graduation, Drescher worked at The Mitchell Field Post Exchange and then at the Freeport Federal Savings & Loan Association. In May of 1948, she married Richard. They spent their life in Rockville Centre and Baldwin where they raised their two children.

Drescher was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and a loyal and generous friend. She was very much the traditional mother, whose focus was always on the well-being of her husband, children and grandchildren. She always found her greatest joy in being with her family, attending church, volunteering for A.H.R.C., traveling the world and crocheting her blankets which she gave to so many as her expression of her love. Throughout her life she enjoyed the beauty of Long Island’s South Shore, especially Jones Beach.

She is survived by her son, Robert, and his wife Susan of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire, and his children, Thomas Drescher of Washington, D.C. and Sally and her husband Chris Pietrafitta from Boston, Massachusetts, daughter Jeanne and her husband Bruce Damiani of Plano, Texas and their children, Michael Damiani of Stevenson Ranch, California, Matthew and his wife Samantha Damiani from Dallas, Texas and Mark Damiani and his fiancé Aly Smith of Houston, Texas.

The family deeply appreciates Drescher’s many friends from Long Island and Plano and those through A.H.R.C., The Women’s Advance Club, The Rockville Centre Fire Department, Defender Hose Company No. 1, and The Conservatory who added so much richness to her life. Friends are invited to join her family for a Memorial Service on Saturday, Nov. 8th at 3 p.m. at Saint John Lutheran Church, 2150 Centre Ave., Bellmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC), 189 Wheatley Road, Brookville, NY 11545 or online: or to St. John Lutheran Church, 2150 Centre Ave., Bellmore 11710 in Drescher’s name.
