Fiesta time, all week long

Served in a crisp flour tortilla, all three shrimp dishes were outstanding – in green tomatillo sauce, in spicy chili sauce, or with tomatoes, onions, peppers, wine and garlic; consider the heat you prefer. Delicious but only for those who like spicy is Mole Poblano, a traditional Mexican chicken dish. Fajitas here rival the best. Our combo came with salmon, shrimp and tender skirt steak, onions and peppers grilled with amazing flavor, a setup of guacamole, pico de gallo, rice, refried beans and sour cream, served with soft tortillas to fill up and enjoy.

Go traditional for dessert. Flan here is denser and creamier than most, a cross between caramel custard and cheesecake. Deep fried ice cream had a crust of corn flakes, vanilla wafers and wheat germ, drizzled with chocolate and honey. Sopapilla, an airy pastry, was a great choice too.

Don Juan’s is open seven days a week. Happy Hour, Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., means half-priced drinks and a free buffet. Lunch is served from noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Dinner is 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 3 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Catering is available off premises and in-house for up to 120 guests. Take-out is another option. Reservations are suggested.
