On Stage

La Traviata
The revitalized Long Island Opera returns to the Madison Theatre stage with its production of Giuseppe Verdi’s beloved three-act opera, with its memorable and revered score ripe with poignant preludes, ensembles and duets. The classic opera, which originally premiered in Venice in 1853 and is based on the play “La dame aux camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, is a timeless journey that proves the enduring strength of a woman’s passion. “La Traviata” means “the fallen woman” and depicts the drama that ensues as the main character Violetta gives up her luxurious lifestyle as a kept woman to experience true love. Filled with tenderness, deception, and intrigue, “La Traviata” remains one of the most performed operas in the world.
