The spirit of 1980s was alive on the Mepham High School stage last week when the Skull and Bones drama club performed “The Wedding Singer.”

Students staged the production, which is based on the 1998 movie of the same title starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, from March 14 to 16. The story, set, songs and costumes are based around a book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, and all relate to the year when the musical takes place –– 1985.

Mepham’s production starred Casey Getzler as Robbie Hart, a wedding singer from New Jersey who dreams of being a rock star. The musical tells the story of how he fell in love with waitress Julia Sullivan, played by Sabrina Garone, after his fiancée left him at the altar.

The play was presented by the drama club through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Edward Grosskreuz, a Mepham English teacher, is adviser for the Skull and Bones club.
