Nassau County leads the state in job growth

Mangano created Accelerate Nassau Now, an incentive program that offers opportunities for new development at the site of the Nassau Coliseum, at Belmont Park in Elmont and at the former Navy-Grumman Corp. property in Bethpage.

Mangano believes that Accelerate Nassau Now will stimulate the economy and create thousands of well-paying jobs. The Grumman property development plan has already attracted homeland security, manufacturing, and film and television industry jobs. Nearly 15,000 jobs are now available on this property alone.

That’s getting the job done!

Statewide, things are also looking up. Governor Cuomo is leading a strong charge to bring jobs back to our state. Between May and June, New York’s unemployment rate fell from 7.6 to 7.5 percent, the lowest it has been since February 2009, and below the national rate.

Friends, we are lucky to have two great leaders fighting hard to make sure that our economy and job market come back stronger than ever.

On another matter, I want to register my disgust with the new Rolling Stone magazine, featuring a cover story on Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Several prominent retailers, including Stop & Shop, CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid, have pledged not to carry the issue.

They should be applauded. Why does this disgraceful terrorist deserve more attention, especially on the front cover of a music-interest magazine? The families of the victims deserve more respect.

One of my Facebook friends said it best. “If I want to read about the Boston Bomber I’ll pick up a newspaper,” she wrote. “If I want to read about Aerosmith, I’ll pick up Rolling Stone magazine!” Stick to what you know, Rolling Stone.
