New Nassau property assessments available

Annual countywide revaluation complete

County properties have been reassessed, and the new values are available to property owners online, according to Acting County Assessor Jim Davis.

Nassau County officials once a year conduct a reassessment of all property values. To determine how much they will pay for the county portion of their taxes, property owners can multiply their new assessed value by the county tax rate, which will be set in August.

The assessments, which indicate the assigned tentative assessed value for each property for the 2018-19 school and general tax years, do not reflect the amount of property taxes that will be imposed by a school district or local taxing authority, Davis said.

According to Smart Asset, the current average property tax rate in Nassau is 2.22 percent, which would equal a tax bill of roughly $10,617, for a home assessed at $482,600 — the county's median home value, according to online real estate marketplace Zillow.

Homeowners who believe that their assessment, or property value, may be too high can file a grievance with the Assessment Review Commission by March 1, according to Davis. "There is no filing fee and the application is easy to fill out,” he added.

Assessment values can be viewed at www.mynassauproperty.com, and anyone wishing to challenge their assessed value, property classification or property tax exemption status can file an application with the Assessment Review Commission at www.nassaucountyny.gov/arc, in-person at 240 Old County Road in Mineola, or by calling ARC at 516-571-3214.
