Merrick’s Noah Rubin, a freshman at Wake Forest University and the 2014 Wimbledon Junior singles champion, helped lead Team USA to the Master U’ BNP Paribas World Collegiate Championship recently.

The contest pitted the three top-ranked men’s and women’s collegiate players from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Russia and the United States against one another in three days of tight competition in a best-of-seven format from Dec. 4 to 7 in Rennes-Saint-Gregoire, France.

In addition to Rubin, Team USA included University of Georgia senior Nathan Pasha, UCLA senior Chanelle Van Nguyen and junior Robin Anderson, and University of Virginia sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and junior Julia Elbaba.

The squad defeated Ireland in the quarterfinal and Russia in the semifinal before besting host-nation France to take the championship. It was the fourth straight year that Team USA captured the championship. Greg Patton of Boise State and Amanda Augustus of the University of California were the coaches.

In intercollegiate play, Rubin has faced Duke, Clemson, Charlotte and East Tennessee State University so far, and at press time was 4-0 playing in the top singles position.
