North Bellmore Foundation to offer summer program

Posted

The North Bellmore Foundation for Academics, Enrichment and Recreation will be offering their annual summer programs for a 10th season.

The nonprofit group was founded in 2004 by a few parents in North Bellmore to expand the educational and enrichment opportunities and experiences beyond the budget capacity of the districts and PTAs. Their programs are open to North Bellmore students entering kindergarten through sixth grade in September 2015. Classes, which include fun and educational activities, take place at Saw Mill Road Elementary School, at 2801 Saw Mill Road. The organization offers two main programs: the Academic Academy and the Enrichment and Recreation Program.

The Academic Academy runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Monday through Friday from July 6 through 31. Classes are staffed and directed by state-certified teachers, and programs are aligned with Common Core State Standards and incorporate enjoyable, engaging activities using themes.

Members of the organization suggested that this may be a good program for parents who are worried about their child experiencing “summer regression” and want their youngster to become more confident in reading, writing and math. The cost of the program is $300; payment plans and scholarship information are available.

The Enrichment and Recreation Program runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Monday through Friday from July 6 through 24. Classes are one-hour sessions, with the exception of a three-hour kindergarten readiness class.

The foundation offers more than 100 classes through this program. Activities include sports, art, cooking, computers, science experiments, games and more. Fees for the program are as follows: $50 for an individual class; $45 per class if a parent enrolls their child in six or more; and $40 per class if a parent enrolls their child in nine or more. Profits are re-invested into the program, according to the group.

"Early bird" special discounts are available for parents who register their children by April 12 online at faer-nb.org. If you have questions about either program, contact faer_bdmembers@yahoo.com.
