Racing season has begun.

Seaford Cub Scout Pack 690 hosted their annual Pinewood Derby races on Jan. 13 at St. William the Abbott School. About 40 participants launched handcrafted cars down ramps in the cafeteria.

For the Pinewood Derby, Scouts are given kits with a block of wood and four wheels. The boys customize their cars, which cannot be more than seven inches long or weigh more than five ounces.

The fastest cars in different age groups will represent Pack 690 at the district championships in several weeks. Cub Scout Pack 239 will be hosting their races at Seaford Manor School on Jan. 27. On Feb. 10, Cub Scout Pack 341 is hosting a Pinewood Derby at St. Frances De Chantal Church in Wantagh while Cub Scout Pack 581 hosts their event at Seaford Harbor School.
