S. Bellmore Civic cleans up Merrick Road

Posted

In honor of spring, volunteers from the South Bellmore Civic Association spruced up Merrick Road on May 2.

Since its inception in 2013, the organization has focused on several community beautification projects, including a planting at and cleanup of Mill Pond Park and the Bellmore post office. For the second straight year, the group called on residents to join volunteers for a spring cleanup of Merrick Road.

Residents and civic association board members met at Ace Hardware at 9 a.m. The store donated mulch and weed killer to the cause, SBCA President Alison Frankel said.

Volunteers worked their way along Merrick Road, weeding, sweeping and mulching as they went. Elected leaders also pitched in at the post office and beyond.

The SBCA’s next meeting is slated for May 20 at 7 p.m. in the Bellmore Memorial Library’s community room. To learn more about the civic group, log on to southbellmorecivic.org or call (516) 418-2297.
