Santa Claus dashes through the Bellmores

Posted

The Christmas spirit was alive throughout the Bellmores on the day after Thanksgiving, when the Chamber of Commerce sponsored its annual “Santa Run.”

On Nov. 23, the chamber sponsored Santa’s trip around the area, accompanied by the Bellmore Fire Department. Chamber officials said there was a special offering at this year’s program, as children had the chance to see a free film at the Bellmore Movies on Pettit Avenue after the run.

To usher in the holiday season, Santa made his way through the Bellmores by fire truck, with giveaways for local children. The run began at 9 a.m. in the CVS Shopping Center in North Bellmore, followed by the Stop & Shop Shopping Center on Newbridge Road, also in North Bellmore, and then the Ace Hardware Shopping Center on Merrick Road in Bellmore. The final stop was at 10:30 a.m. at the Bellmore Firehouse on Pettit Avenue, with the film screening beginning half an hour later at the Bellmore Movies next door.

While Bellmore children did receive gifts from Santa at each of the four stops, they were also encouraged to bring unwrapped toys for less fortunate children.

Elected officials also joined in the festivities, including Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg of Merrick and Town of Hempstead Clerk Mark Bonilla of Bellmore.
