State police probing traffic death

New York State Police are investigating a traffic fatality on the Southern State Parkway, near Meadowbrook Road in North Merrick, around 6:10 a.m. on Monday.

According to officials, a 1996 Honda Odyssey, traveling in the Southern State’s eastbound lane, struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking in the road. State police identified the pedestrian as Peter Perri, 56, of Shirley, in Suffolk County. They did not identify the driver of the Honda, who at press time was not facing criminal charges. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment.

An accident investigation is ongoing. Witnesses are asked to call state police at (631) 756-3300.
