Supporters rally around town clerk
Julie Mansmann/Herald
Supporters of embattled Town of Hempstead Clerk Mark Bonilla asked residents to boycott the town’s recent Hispanic Heritage Month celebration because he was not invited. Bonilla is facing criminal charges stemming from sexual harassment complaints against him.

Bonilla said that supporters have motivated him to continue doing his job. On his Facebook page, he thanked those who have wished him well. “The public reception and support has been amazing, and I thank all for not rushing to judgment,” he wrote. “The support is a big reason why I won’t let them win.”

After his arrest, Bonilla returned to work on Sept. 25.
