‘Biker Run’ to be held this year in memory of Tina Depuis

Friends and family of Tina “Katina” Depuis are holding a commemorative “Biker Run” on Oct. 22, starting at 12 p.m. on Grand Avenue in Bellmore.

Dupuis died on Nov. 18 after a battle with diverticulitis, an inflammation of the digestive system. She was 47.

Before she got sick, Depuis used to ride a three-wheeled motorcycle, known as Can-Am Spyder, across Long Island with her fiancée Billy Polara, who rode beside on his Harley Davidson, and a number of their friends.

Depuis’ father P. Andreotis died of brain cancer in October 2010 and, in his memory, Depuis joined with her friends and fellow bikers every fall to hold a “Biker Run” fundraiser. All proceeds from the event went toward the Guardian Brain Foundation. Last year, however, Depuis was too sick to hold it, said Anthony Salvatore Mendola, a friend of Tina’s for 20 years.

“We didn’t want to stop the run again,” he added. “We wanted to dedicate it to Tina.”

The run will start in front of B.C.’s Pub on Grand Avenue in Bellmore. Participants will ride down Wantagh Parkway toward Ocean Avenue East, stopping at the Oak Beach Inn to hold a memorial for Tina. After, they will head toward Captree Beach and then back to B.C.’s Pub.
