Freeporters can support Bethany House through July

ProHealth Care, one of the largest physician-run health systems in the northeast with urgent care locations throughout Nassau County including Freeport, Long Beach and Wantagh, is raising money for Bethany House. Stepping into its second month of fundraising, by extending its original June campaign efforts, ProHealth hopes to raise $100,000 in 2019.

Bethany House in Roosevelt is a nonprofit agency that helps address homelessness in women and children on Long Island. The urgent care launched a $1 donation initiative to support Bethany House and its ongoing “Year of the Woman” campaign dedicated to supporting and educating women on health and wellness needs.

According to Dr. Bonnie Simmons, chairman of Urgent Care division Episodic and Injury at ProHealth, Freeport’s West Sunrise Highway location along with neighboring ProHealth Care Urgent Cares welcomes approximately 1000 patients a day. For each visit to a ProHealth, Simmons explained, a dollar will go towards the Bethany House.

“Every visit counts,” Simmons said. “This is an exciting campaign that will empower women [and their family] who may have lost their homes in unusual situations and need help.”

Simmons also added that though goal to raise the money for Bethany House is important, people who don’t have to visit the urgent care can still donate by dropping off, at their nearest locations, canned/boxed food and toiletries through July 31st. The Freeport urgent care is open daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Earlier this year, ProHealth also launched a community outreach the PHamily Circle Initiative, which is dedicated to fundraising, awareness and medicine. In its inaugural year, PHamily Circle is focusing its efforts on raising awareness for women’s health and is conducting a series of educational programs and medical screenings for the community with proceeds also going directly to Bethany House.
