Man charged with DWI in Merrick has four prior convictions, police say

After a man was arrested in Merrick and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, police found that he had four prior convictions, three of which were also DWI and one of which was Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol.

Joseph Jacaruso, 51, of Franklin Square, was arrested at 8 p.m. on July 20 when police found him unable to maintain his 2000 Chevrolet Blazer on a traffic lane west on Merrick Road.

Police said that he nearly collided with multiple other vehicles before an officer initiated a Vehicle and Traffic stop. It was determined that Jacaruso had been drinking and he was placed under arrest without incident.

Jacaruso is being charged with his fourth conviction of Driving While Intoxicated. In addition, he is also being charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st degree, Reckless Driving, Failure to Stay in a Single Lane and Unlicensed Operator.

Jacaruso is scheduled to be arraigned on July 21 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
