Classes at the West Hempstead Union Free School District’s Cornwell Avenue Elementary School celebrated their fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association by taking part in Hoops for Heart on Feb. 27.
The students helped to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease by wearing along with playing tic-tac-toe and knockout basketball during their phys. ed. classes as part of the Hoops for Heart program. Throughout the month of February, students helped to raise money for the association and were rewarded with prizes and a celebration during the gym class.
“I appreciate all the efforts of the students and parents helping toward a great cause,” phys. ed. teacher Mike Hovanec said in a news release.
