Follow the code To the Editor: I read with interest two weeks ago a report regarding my attendance and presentation regarding the basketball poles facing the street in the Herald’s article, “Resident creates hoop-la at trustee meeting” (Nov. 17-23). Mr. Sepe and, privately, Mr. Oppenheiner intimated a possible ambiguity in the code. I’m going to guess they are going to use that as an excuse to allow the present and continued proliferation of these things in Rockville Centre, comparing them to temporary structures even if they sit out for years, causing an eyesore and danger to children, adults and motorists, including trucks. Basically the way I read the piece, it’s just a “cop out.” Let’s see how they try to get around this while other residents follow the law. It doesn’t matter if Mr. Sepe doesn’t have an issue with them. It matters if he’s going to follow village code and not attempt to circumvent it by doing what’s right, which seems to be a problem these days with some people. As for Marc Zeloof’s comments, which states that since the world is being threatened by ISIS, a bad economy, etc., we should all just forget about anything else that somehow impacts a community or issues that are far less important in the scheme of things. If this individual had read my past letters and attended the meeting, I stated that the issue regarding basketball poles paled in comparison to other very important issues going on in this country and the world. I found his letter to the editor inane. Burton Diamond Rockville Centre more
