Embracing diversity

East Meadow has grown to become a diverse community, full of people of various backgrounds, ethnicities and religions. And one resident, Melina Ramirez, a freshman at East Meadow High School, believes that community members can do more to embrace the cultures of their friends and neighbors. more

Ocean-themed mural illuminates Salisbury

If you’ve driven along Carman Avenue this month, or recently paid a visit to Salisbury’s community square — the sight of the region’s annual Christmas tree and menorah lighting — then you may have noticed a new, colorful addition to the area. A blue, ocean-themed mural painted by a local East Meadow Girl Scout troop, depicting underwater life, complete with sea animals, buried treasure and ocean plants, now rests on the side wall of Carvel on 801 Carman Avenue. more

Girl Scouting’s highest honor

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray presented an official Town of Hempstead citation and certificates of recognition to the proud recipients of the Gold Award at the East Meadow Girl Scout Troop 1405 award ceremony held at East Meadow High School. more
