Marty Lyons Foundation's local chapter holds fundraiser at East Meadow lanes

Local bowlers joined together at AMF East Meadow Lanes on Front Street on Aug. 16 for the 19th Annual Nassau Bowling For Wishes fundraiser. The event raises money for the Marty Lyons Foundation, a charity that fulfills the wishes of children who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life threatening illness.

Formerly held at Massapequa Bowl, event chairperson John Gordon moved it to East Meadow two years ago, with the help of Andrew Ghirardi, the general manager of the bowling alley, and who is also the coach of the East Meadow School District bowling team.

Lyons, a former defensive tackle of the New York Jets, began the charity in 1982.

The local event raises thousands annually, and this year, approximately 200 people participated in the cause.
