July marked the grand opening of CureWell Pharmacy, an independent, family owned and operated drugstore in Franklin Square. Personalized attention and special amenities, which are not always found in large chain drug stores, are what it’s all about. CureWell’s mission is to provide customers with high quality products and services, coupled with expert consultation.

Asra Khan, who owns CureWell with her husband, Hashmath, is a licensed pharmacist who specializes in compounding. During her years with a well-known drugstore chain, she won numerous awards in customer service. Starting a family business and bringing back the personalization of a “mom and pop” style shop seemed the way to go.

Pharmacy compounding is a practice in which a licensed pharmacist mixes ingredients to create a medication or ointment, or alters ingredients in an existing one. A prescription for the medication is tailored to the health requirements of an individual. Each ingredient is used in the exact strength and dosage required by the patient. As a compounding pharmacist, Asra Khan will work together with the prescriber to customize the medicine to the patient’s specific needs.

The 1,000-square-foot store has everything typically found in a drugstore. They carry hair products, cosmetics, baby needs, and over the counter medications and health supplies. The list goes on and on.

As CureWell Pharmacy is new, services are constantly being added and enhanced. CureWell is now offering pet compounding, customizing medication prescribed by veterinarians. And, in addition to offering flu shots, they will be providing pneumonia and shingles immunizations as well.

Seniors can count on a 10 percent discount. A Notary Public is always available. The store offers free pickup and delivery, blood pressure monitoring, and diabetes screening. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Professionals at CureWell are eager to provide customers with honest answers about health care choices. Answers are based on what they feel will work best for the individual and his or her concerns. The Khans believe in treating customers with courtesy and respect, and operating their business in an ethical and legal manner. Their employees are trained to do the same.
