He said his inspiration comes from his uncle, Frank Filippi Jr., who passed away in 2006. “He was my best friend,” said Gordon, who also credited East Meadow resident Jackie Bracker and Baldwin resident Eleanor Rodden for their relief efforts.

On Dec. 8 and 9, Gordon is hosting a Toy Drive Block Party on his East Meadow block to further aid hurricane victims this holiday season. Gordon is currently unemployed, and said his organization has become a full-time job for him. At the start of next year, he said he plans to turn his group into a certified 501(c) charitable organization. “But I don’t call it a job because this is something I love to do,” he said. “It’s what I’ve always done.”
