Cops: Father, son sold cars with altered miles

A father and son from East Meadow were arrested last Friday after police said they sold cars with altered mileage totals in order to deceive buyers.

Nassau County police said the arrests were the result of an investigation that determined that five of six cars parked on the private property of a vacant retail business, on 2807 Hempstead Turnpike, were window-marked with incorrect information while offered for sale.

Those vehicles — as well as other previous sales — had odometers that allegedly indicated altered mileage totals. In one case, the actual mileage discrepancy was in excess of 197,000 miles, police said.

Cory Vlado, 45, and Steve Vlado, 29, were arrested on June 26 at the Hempstead Turnpike location. They are both charged with third-degree grand larceny, two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree defrauding. They were scheduled to be arraigned on June 27.

Police say they are seeking additional persons who believe they may have been victimized by the pair, and are asking them to call the Major Case Bureau, Vehicle Theft Squad at (516) 573-5275.
