An East Meadowite is now a leader within a major fundraising group on Long Island.

Michael Pfeiffer, the first-ever executive director for Nassau’s Habitat for Humanity, was installed to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter board of directors on Jan. 26 at the Molloy College Suffolk Campus. He is now serving his first term on the board for AFPLI, which is the region’s professional affiliation for those in the fundraising field or whose positions require fundraising expertise.

Throughout the year, AFPLI offers a wide array of programs and services that include monthly educational seminars, scholarships, mentoring, certification programs, a job bank and its celebrated Philanthropy Day Conference and Awards Luncheon (which will be held on Nov. 18 this year). The group is a part of a larger, international organization with more than more than 30,000 members in 235 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Asia.

Representatives of the organization explained that AFP’s mission is to promote the spirit of philanthropy and empower professionals in the nonprofit sector to serve humankind. The organization fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals, promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession and encourages public understanding, they added.

Pfeiffer regularly thinks about ways to help people in need, as Habitat for Humanity focuses affordable housing issues in the county. Working collaboratively with local government officials, Long Island based corporations and individuals whose goals are to uplift the local community, Pfeiffer ensures that partnerships are forged to achieve the goals of the group’s mission, AFPLI officials said.

They explained that Pfeiffer’s job is to make these community partners aware of Habitat for Humanity’s current needs for resources, land and applicants for the housing it builds. As Nassau’s chapter of this organization continues to grow, Pfeiffer and his partners’ goals include neighborhood revitalization and helping solve the “zombie home” epidemic plaguing many parts of Nassau

Prior to being appointed executive director at Habitat for Humanity, Pfeiffer served as program manager, overnight house manager and development officer for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. He has also been a member of the committee for Katie’s Run, which is an annual 5K run organized by the Katie McBride Foundation for childhood leukemia victims.

Pfeiffer is also an alumnus of Seton Hall University; he graduated in 2002.
