East Meadow Kiwanis spreads holiday cheer

Club to deliver food baskets this weekend

The East Meadow Kiwanis Club, with the assistance of its sponsored youth groups, collected food and monetary donations last weekend outside of two locations: Waldbaums, on the corner of Merrick Avenue and Front Street, and at Stop and Shop, on the corner of Newbridge Drive and Hempstead Turnpike.

Kiwanis set up its booth outside Waldbaums, while the students were at Stop and Shop. For a few hours on Saturday and Sunday (and second straight weekend), the club encouraged shoppers to make donations.

The club sponsors the Circle-K at the collegiate level, the Key Club at the high school level, the Builders Club at the middle school level, and K-Kids at the elementary level.

Kiwanis will use the donations to assemble gift baskets this Friday at W.T. Clarke High School, which they will deliver the following morning to more than 100 local families who have fallen upon hard times.
