The East Meadow Veterans of Foreign War Post 2736 recently donated $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Wounded Warriors is a nationwide organization that provides programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.

Sal Pellegrino, the commander of the East Meadow VFW, said his post was approached by Wounded Warrior representatives early in 2012, notifying them of their desire to build houses for returning soldiers.

Pellegrino said the VFW decided to donate as much as possible, and cleared its treasury fund to donate the money. “We figured we could do some good for somebody else,” he said.

A ceremony was held at Christ the King Episcopal Church in East Meadow, and Andrew McClure accepted the check donation on behalf of the Wounded Warriors.
