An East Meadow man was recently appointed to a financial leadership position at Catholic Health Services.

CHS has appointed Sam-Young Chwe, CPA, to the vice president of finance and corporate controller position. Chwe will oversee the accounting and finance departments’ operations, financial reporting, budget and planning processes, and he will ensure that internal and external financial results are timely for the system. He will work closely with CHS’s chief financial officer.

Chwe joined CHS in 2010 as the director of financial reporting. In 2013, he was promoted to assistant vice president of financial reporting.

Chwe earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting from Adelphi University’s School of Business, graduating magna cum laude. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and of Healthcare Financial Management Association. Chwe earned multiple KPMG Encore Awards for outstanding performance when he was an audit manager on multiple health care and public companies.

CHS is an integrated system encompassing some of the region’s health and human services agencies. With 22,000 staff members, six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, a home nursing service, hospice, a community-based agency for persons with special needs and a regional lab, CHS officials said their high standards have resulted in a 23 percent market share.
